Dr. Ben Carson is a renowned neurosurgeon, author, and former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development whose remarkable life story has inspired millions.
Born in Detroit and raised by a single mother who emphasized the importance of education, Dr. Carson went on to graduate from Yale University and earn his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School.
For nearly 30 years, Dr. Carson served as Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, becoming the youngest major division director in the hospital’s history at age 33. He gained international recognition for his pioneering work in pediatric neurosurgery, including leading the 1987 surgical team that successfully separated twins conjoined at the back of the head.
In 2017, Dr. Carson was sworn in as the 17th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, serving until 2021. He is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor. He and his wife, Candy, also founded the Carson Scholars Fund, which promotes academic achievement and humanitarian service among young people.
Dr. Carson’s journey, from a challenging childhood in Detroit to an internationally acclaimed surgeon and public servant, is a powerful testament to the importance of faith, education, perseverance, and the value of every human life.
